Susan E. Clarke is 28 years old and has been working professionally as a Writer/Producer for eight years. Her company iDare Productions has been creating content for the last three years, including her multi-award winning show Chronicles of Syntax.
Susan's professional career kicked off in 2011 when she was the only female out of eight script writers commissioned by Nokia, to create a short film for their latest mobile phone. Her short film 'Daniel' won a spot premiering at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that year and people began to notice that she could not only write, but she was good at putting a well rounded show together.
Bouncing off the success of that, she moved down to London from South Yorkshire and within 2 weeks she had won a spot working with the British Film Institute, inside their Future Film department. There she wrote and produced her second short film, 'RX Terra', instantly branded, "The best thing to come out of the BFI Future Film initiative”. The BFI requested to keep the rights to her film for a full year and it was shown in several festivals including the BFI Future Film Festival and the Sci-Fi London Film Festival 2012. Accompanying its stay at the BFI, 'RX Terra' was screened on 5 separate occasions at the National Film Theatre.
This is where she pitched and successfully began her work on Chronicles of Syntax. Currently a web-series, affectionately known as 'COS', it is a sci-fi/fantasy story that LA branded “Doctor Who meets X-Men”.
Season one is 6 x 30 minute episodes, with 6 more seasons of content to follow and an overwhelmingly active fan base. The series has been seen over 180,000 times and she personally speaks to around 10,000 fans every single day via social media. In fact, the majority of season one was funded by its fans followed by a financial top up by an online Broadcaster called ChannelFlip, when the show premiered on the Multiverse Channel on Youtube.
Chronicles of Syntax has gone on to screen at several international film festivals including right here at home, at the Raindance Film Festival 2013, Rome Web-fest 2013, LA web-fest, TO Web-fest and Miami Web-fest this year.
During the LA web-fest we came away with six awards which were:
Outstanding sound design in a science fiction/fantasy
Outstanding special/visual effects in a science fiction/fantasy
Outstanding score in a science fiction/fantasy
Outstanding lead actress in a science fiction/fantasy
Outstanding Editing in a science fiction/fantasy
and the biggest testament to her show:
Outstanding series in a science fiction/fantasy
And now Susan and her team are looking forward to starting work on season two, as well as looking towards the future and considering any other projects that might come their way.
